Student Scholarship to attend the NMPCA Ghost Ranch Workshop

Apply by May 31, 2012. Workshop is September 21-23, 2012.

We are proud to offer, due to an anonymous donation, a scholarship for one student to attend the Ghost Ranch workshop. The workshop will be held September 21-23 and promises to be one of the best ever events in our New Mexico Connections format. This popular format started several years ago has been followed every other year and features several shorter presentations by various artists, usually all from New Mexico, many from our own membership. This year several sessions will be joined with members of the IAC (International Academy of Ceramics) who are holding their bi-annual assembly in Santa Fe the week before our workshop.

Presenters at this year's workshop will include Arthur Gonzales from California, and from New Mexico we will have Debra Fritts, Alex Kraft, Betsy Williams, Mario Quilles, and Frank Willett. We will also have a raku party with Jim Romberg and Joe Bova. These are all really great artists who have much to share with us.

This scholarship is eligible to anyone who is a student in the ceramic arts. The student chosen to receive this scholarship should plan to be able to attend the entire workshop, from Friday, September 21 at 1:00 pm to Sunday, September 23 at 3:00 pm. The scholarship will include full registration and room and board accommodations in the Ghost Ranch Casitas (spartan but beautiful view!). If transportation is needed within New Mexico, members who are attending the workshop from various locations around the state can possibly give a ride to the recipient with advance notice.

Timeline:
Apply through this website from April 1 to May 31, 2012 by filling in this event registration. A committee of the NMPCA will review all applications and select the recipient and two alternates. Notification of the committee's selection will be sent by June 15.

Ghost Ranch V-Camp

One again Ghost Ranch has invited us back to spend a fun filled weekend at the ranch cleaning and renovating Pot Hollow.

This year we will be re-plastering the fume kiln (hopefully for the last time...third time is the charm!), repairing the steps down to the raku pavilion, installation of student totem, cleanup and organization, and many other activities to get Pot Hollow ready for a great program of events over the summer and for our own Fall workshop.

A donation to cover the cost of meals is gratefully accepted when you check in (suggested $30 if staying the entire weekend).

You will be contacted about special items to bring, but in general work gloves, work clothes, dust masks for cleanup and sturdy shoes, rakes, shovel, pick-ax, trowel. We are looking for a 2 to 2.5 inch diameter, 10 foot metal pole; and 3 cans of spray foam insulation. If you can provide these items, please contact Barbara.

Saturday, May 19th is the Ghost Ranch Bluegrass Festival concert, which adds greatly to the fun. (Bring a small contribution to the concert.)

Each member is permitted to enter up to two pieces. The acceptance and showing of the 2nd work depends on space available.

AAIC/NMPCA Fellowship to attend the General Assembly of the International Academy of Ceramics

Deadline to Apply: June 8, 2012

Apply for one of 5 awards which pay $600 towards the non-member IAC registration at the upcoming International Academy of Ceramics (IAC) Assembly.

The IAC aims "to present international contemporary ceramics at the highest level, to encourage cultural cooperation through ceramics around the world... Through biennial General Assemblies in significant international venues... opportunities are provided for the demonstration and debate of contemporary ceramic issues."

This year, the prestigious IAC Assembly is in Santa Fe, New Mexico, September 17-21, 2012.

Description: $600.00 mini‐stipends will be awarded to five members of the NMPCA to support attending the 45th General Assembly of the International Academy of Ceramics. The fee for the Assembly is $895.00 for non‐IAC members. Persons receiving the award will pay the balance of the fee amount of $295.00.

Eligibility: Members of the New Mexico Potters and Clay Artists (NMPCA) who are not students. A person applying for the mini‐stipend may join the NMPCA at the time of submitting the application for the stipend. Non‐residents of New Mexico are eligible.

Deadline: June 8, 2012.

Selection: A panel of three jurors will select the winners: 2 members of the IAC, and one member of the NMPCA.

Application: Apply online and then email a resume to the selection committee.

Registration: Recipients of the award will be notified by June 15 and must register for the Assembly by June 30.

The annual NMPCA Ghost Ranch workshop: New Mexico Connections
