Susan Filley Ghost Ranch Workshop Participants:
The NMPCA’s 2011 Ghost Ranch Workshop is held at a cooler part of the year in early September. The workshop starts Friday afternoon, September 9 at 1:00 in the afternoon. The office is closed from noon to 1 so arrive before noon or plan to find out your room assignment during an afternoon break.
Since this workshop includes throwing, you should have basic throwing skills when you attend, as we will not have time for beginning lessons. If you have a portable wheel, please bring it as we will not have enough wheels at the ranch for everyone to throw at the same time. Please be prepared to take turns at throwing.
Bring your throwing tools, plastic, and boxes to transport your creations home. One bag of porcelain per registrant will be provided.
Personal items to bring to the Ranch:
- Favorite beverages (we will have water and tea available at Pot Hollow). You may also buy beverages from machines and the store at Ghost Ranch.
- A flashlight or headlamp (important for getting around camp and reading at night as there are no bedside lamps at the casitas and often not in other rooms either, and there are minimal trail lights).
- Bug repellant.
- Comfortable clothes, sturdy walking shoes, a hat, rain gear, and a jacket or sweater for evenings. Weather is variable - it can be hot in the day and much cooler at night. Downpours also occur.
- Sun block
You can get a map of hiking trails from the office. Because the trails are inherently dangerous. please do not hike by yourself. Always watch for rattlesnakes as you walk around. Quiet time is observed at the ranch after 10:00 p.m. Radios and CD players used only with earphones, please.
Several people are staying in the
casitas. If you are,
you need to bring bed linens for twin beds, including pillows, and all bath linens and supplies. I recommend you bring a small fan - there is a lot of sun in the day - and any other necessary creature comfort.
