| Getting Started: |

The Photo Album software consists of three active pages:
|
• ShowFolder.asp displays the
subfolders and photo thumbnails within the current folder |
• ShowPhoto.asp displays one
full sized photo and allows navigation to others |
• EditFolder.asp allows those
with login privileges to create new folders, upload photos, add captions,
rearrange the display order, and delete items from the album. |
This collection of help topics is intended to explain
the operation of EditFolder.asp and help the users to manage their albums
effectively. |
The Photo Album editor is invoked by clicking the link
at the top of the ShowFolder.asp page titled "Edit Album."
If you are already logged in, you will be taken immediately to the Edit
page for the current folder. If you are not logged in, you will see
a login form instead. |

If you are not logged in, you will see this screen when
you click "Edit Album" from the ShowFolder page: |
 |
Important:
your browser must be set to accept cookies. If not, you will be unable
to log in and use the Album Editor.
Someone with site administrator privileges must have edited a file
on the website and added a line with your login name and password combination.
These should be entered into the appropriate text boxes in the login
form. Your Windows password manager may have saved a copy of these and
will provide them as defaults.
The "Save Login on your computer?" checkbox should be left
unchecked if your computer is shared with others who should not be allowed
access. If you have exclusive control over your computer, you may check
this box and your login will be saved in a local cookie for 30 days.
After entering your information, click the "Submit" button.
If your login was successful, you will be taken to the normal Edit screen.
If not, you will be returned to the login screen indefinitely. |

| Screen Layout: |

 |
The main edit screen consists of three zones: |
• The top banner (yours may be
different) |
• Current folder properties:
A caption box and controls that pertain to the entire current folder.
The text entry box allows you to change the current folder caption.
You cannot change the current folder name without going to its parent
folder. |
• Photo or SubFolder properties
(repeated for each): The name and icon appears at left for each subfolder.
The subfolder icon cannot be changed from this editor. The filename
and photo thumbnail appears at left for each photo. |
Between each object may be found
Add Folder and Add
Photo buttons, allowing insertion of new objects at any point in the
list. |
|
| Moving Around: |
The
Parent button takes you to the parent folder (unless you are already
at the top) |
Clicking the icon for a subfolder takes you there for
editing. |
Clicking the thumbnail for a photo displays it full
sized. Use the back arrow on the browser to return to the edit screen.
|
The
Home button returns you to the ShowFolder page for the current folder,
thereby leaving the editor. |
The Help
button opens this help page in a new window. |
|
| Changing Filenames and Captions: |
There is a filename and a caption text box associated
with each subfolder and photo, plus a caption text box for the current
folder. These all contain the current values when the editor is entered.
You may change any of these as desired. The photo filenames should always
be valid MSWindows filenames with an extent of ".jpg".
The caption texts are entered in WikiScript, a very simple markup
language. The language is so simple that you can just enter multi-line
text and it should read ok. If you want to add bold, italic, hyperlink,
or other fancies and don't speak "Wiki", click
here for more information.
The Submit
Change button must be clicked to make permanent any changes made to
photo filenames, subfolder names, or captions on this page. Caution:
If you click any other buttons to add items, delete items, or rearrange
items, any changed captions or filenames will be lost unless you click
first. |
|
| Changing The Display Order |
The Up
button moves the object one higher (earlier) in the list. If the item
is already at the top, nothing happens. |
The Down
button moves the object one lower (later) in the list. If the item is
already at the bottom, nothing happens. |
|
| Adding Subfolders |
Between each object may be found an
Add Folder button, allowing insertion of a new subfolder at any point
in the list. |
 |
The above screen provides text boxes to enter the folder
name and caption. Then clicking the
button returns you to the main editor screen with the subfolder added
at the desired place. |
|
| Adding Photos |
Between each object may be found an
Add Photo button, allowing insertion of a new photo at any point in
the list. |
 |
Use the "Browse..." button to locate the desired
photo on your local computer. Photos must be of type ".jpg"
and should be smaller than 800 x 800 pixels for most viewer's monitors.
If you don't add a caption at this point, the filename will be used
instead. When you are finished identifying the filename and entering
the caption, click the
button to upload the photo. A thumbnail or smaller sized version will
be automatically generated and used to display in the album folder view.
If an error occurs, such as a wrong file type or attempting to load
the same photo twice, a message will be displayed at the top of the
main edit screen and the upload will be cancelled. |
|
| Deleting Photos or Subfolders |
The Delete
button removes the current object from the album (after a confirmation
dialog that allows you to change your mind). Once deleted and confirmed,
the object is gone forever. |
|
| Leaving the Editor |
The
Home button returns you to the ShowFolder page for the current folder,
thereby leaving the editor. |
