Artist's Statement:

As a child I remember being very creative artistically but in the 1950's, if you could not draw a "realistic" man or horse, you were shuffled off into home economics class and that was the end of my "artistic" career for quite a number of years. After raising four children, I decided to do something special for myself and I signed up for a pottery class. I got a late start at age 52 but a whole new world opened up to me with that pottery class. I live about ten minutes from downtown Santa Fe on five acres of pinion and pine trees and it is here where I have my pottery studio. My work is fired to cone 5 using different types of clay and I utilize multiple glazes creating Asian-style pieces.

A Zen master friend gave me the name of "CHUO" many years before I studied pottery. It means "heart" or "center" in Japanese. At the time I wondered what the name was for and many years later I realized that I am CHUO the potter and my work is CHUO pottery.

I am presently remodeling my studio and I anticipate having visitors to my authentic Japanese Pottery studio this summer.
