Artist's Statement:

Originally, from El Paso, TX, I have been active in clay since the late seventies. I was initially drawn to clay as a way to explore the artistic side of creativity, in a way that complimented my work as a research biochemist. After moving East, I began to explore the features of the Southwest, particularly the mountains and large vistas. My work includes large multi-dimensional landscape “mountain” ranges and mountain scenes created with overlapping glazes fired at cone 10. While the variability of the firing process contradicts a “scientific approach” where the outcome is predictable (or perhaps not), this approach holds real appeal.

Since moving to Santa Fe, I have continued to explore large-scale sculptural pieces, both horizontal and vertical. In addition, I have begun to develop large-scale functional and decorative pieces, such as fountains and birdbaths that reflect the local beauty and the influence of scarce water.
