Clay Connections
Thursday, December 3, 2026 from 5 to 7:30 pm. Via zoom.
Our new host, Santa Fe ceramic sculptor Diane MacInnes, brings back the popular online discussion.
Clay Connections is a collaborative project of NMPCA members. As artists, we experiment and discover things that work for us. Play is essential! Perhaps we have broken rules and discovered a new way of working, or we’ve hand built cups and bowls and found a particular way of doing it that works for us. By sharing both our disasters and our triumphs, we learn from one another. It’s all part of the creative process.
Our next Clay Connections ZOOM will be Thursday 12/03/2026 at 5PM. For this gathering Cirrelda Snider-Bryan will share a power point, “Geology of Clay.” Mary Simmons will share her theme of “Rockin the Paint.”
Cirrelda Snider-Bryan grew her love of clay while growing up with geologist dad. When she created Clay Science classes at the Natural History Museum, she received an Armstrong grant in part to create a power point which gives a basic review of the geology of clay. Cirrelda will present pertinent slides illustrating and explaining how clay minerals are formed, eroded, transported and deposited into lower elevations in the landscape.
Mary C Simmons grew her love of clay chemistry during her graduate studies in her M.S. program in Geology at the Department of Earth & Planetary Sciences at UNM. Mary will demonstrate how to process landscape clay into "paint" for slips and glazes. In addition, she will present information and color slides on the coloring agents used in high-fire glazes, straight off the Periodic Table of the Elements.
Join us so that we can inspire and support one another, as well as discuss future Clay Connections themes.
So come and enjoy!
